Work Outfit Inspiration I: Feeling Fall

Despite living in Utah I do tend to dress up for work, especially when I am teaching. I wanted to start some posts that highlight outfits that are stylish, practical and appropriate for work. As you may have noticed I love fall so I decided to theme this first round as the perfect fall work outfits. I will preface this by saying that I don’t really have a ‘dress code’ that I have to comply with so some of these outfits are a little more relaxed.

Trench coat similar, sweater Everlane, pants similar (a fun alternative option), booties Vince Camuto

I am definitely of the opinion that a trench coat makes anything look nicer. It is a great way to make an outfit look a little more professional. I also love finding nicer pants that are also comfortable (all three dress pant options in this post definitely fit that). The final touch for this outfit was that go to Everlane sweater.

Coat Mark and Graham, booties Blondo, skirt option from Reformation (I honestly had a really hard time finding something similar, it is pretty old J. Crew Factory), sweater similar

Black and camel are classic colors especially for the work place. The work really nicely together and I decided to make it a little more fun with the zebra printed skirt and patterned coat.

Striped shirt old (similar, a great Everlane option), orange dress pants similar, booties Blondo (waterproof), scarf vintage Hermes (loving this leopard one)

This is my favorite work outfit from last year and I still love it. A silk scarf can really elevate an outfit. I also really enjoy the black and orange as a kind of nod toward Halloween.

Tweed jacket old (similar, more affordable option), dress old (similar, I also love this one), boots Sam Edelman

A classic black dress is a must for a work wardrobe. There are so many options and I do recommend really searching for one that is flattering and comfortable. It can be an item worth splurging on since you will wear it a ton! I also love having some tweed pieces for work.

Blazer 1. STATE (similar), t-shirt Something Navy, pants nydj, booties Vince Camuto

This plaid blazer is my go to for work looks this fall. It looks great with dress pants, jeans, skirts, dresses (i.e. everything). I like that this one is longer as well!

Cardigan Madewell, jeans similar, button down similar, booties Vince Camuto

I know not everyone can wear jeans to work but they are a great option if you are able to. I think a dark denim tends to look a little nicer so I paired mine with a button down shirt and cardigan.

Thanks for reading!

Nancy Drew Outfit Inspiration

So I am on a little bit of a role with new series and I could not be more excited for this one. I am really trying to use this blog as a place to express myself and do posts that I am really excited about. I have thought long and hard about the kinds of posts I want to write and I have come up with lots of fun ideas for the coming months. For this series, every month I am going to be doing a style post with inspiration from a favorite show, book or movie. September’s inspiration post is Nancy Drew for many reasons. First, I love her as a character and I love her outfits (especially in the 2007 movie with Emma Roberts). One thing I really love about her style is the retro/vintage that I can mix into modern trends and pieces. The other big reason I chose this one first is that the new TV series is coming out in October (see trailer).

I chose three outfits from different scenes in the movie and I added one bonus photo at the end that to me reflects the new series. Challenging myself to create these looks out of items I already own was so much fun!

Outfit #1: Penny loafers are a defining aspect of a Nancy Drew outfit. My favorites are these G.H. Bass & Co. ones but Everlane has some really great options! She also always layers either a sweater or trench coat. She adds quite a bit of plaid in the movie. She wears a trouser often but I paired this sweater and loafers with a plaid skirt as well since it is a little more my style!

Outfit #2: Nancy Drew wears a very similar outfit in the opening scene as well as the later scene with the car bomb. This is the outfit for sleuthing plus it is so comfortable. It also looks so classy but not too dressy! She wears a lot of headbands in the movie but I wanted to add my own style to these outfits as well. I did add a jeweled headband in with this outfit.

Outfit #3: Last but certainly not least is a classic tweed suit/dress. Personally this might be my favorite outfit ever. I don’t get to wear it much since it it pretty dressy but I love it for a Nancy Drew look. This is a look inspired by her first day of school outfit as well as the outfit she wears to the courthouse.

So I wanted to add a bonus outfit to tease the new TV show a little! Her style is definitely going to be way different but I am still super excited to watch. The most I got from the preview was her work uniform (a dress over a white shirt, still classically Nancy Drew) and her classic denim jacket look. I will alway be a denim jacket fan so it definitely felt more like me!

I hope you enjoy this new series!
