Around the Web

As much as I love writing a weekly post compiling all my favorites from around the web, I have decided to make it every other week and include ten favorites instead of five. I am going to still publish it on Mondays but now it will switch off with a style post. For example last week I did accessory essentials. Basically they will both be meatier but slightly less often.

Anyways… here are my favorites from around the internet from the past several weeks. I hope you enjoy and I would love to hear about things you have found!

Stranger Things: My number one for this week is definitely Stranger Things 2. It came out October 27th with 9 episodes and it took less than a week for me to watch the whole thing. I loved it, maybe even more than the first season. I won’t spoil anything but it is pretty amazing, with a bigger story line and some great new characters. I also enjoyed some of the new relationships between characters that I didn’t expect. Along with Stranger Things is Beyond Stranger Things which is also on Netflix. Definitely watch the show first but I really am enjoying hearing what the actors, producers and creators have to say.

Glamour’s Women of the Year: This is such a great list and beautiful article. It is so worth taking the time read about these women because they are pretty amazing. True role models with amazing drive, style and ethic.

Inside Chanel: I am not sure why I just discovered this but Chanel’s short films of previous iconic products in incredible. Each film is a couple minutes but well done and succeeds in giving you a glimpse into the history of Chanel. For any fashionista they are a must watch.

Fall Movies: I wasn’t going to include this one at first but I ended up spending quite a bit of time on Saturday going through this list and watching trailers. I actually got pretty excited about some, including Murder on the Orient Express (one of my absolute favorite books). I am also intrigued by The Mountain Between Us and Wonder (which came out this weekend).

iPhone Photo Improvement: This short list of things to improve iPhone photographs is super helpful in upping your Instagram game. The app VSCO is one I highly recommend for editing photos especially for stories and for posts.

The New Lion King Cast: Remaking beloved classics can be especially tough and often remakes fall far short. However the cast for The Lion King was announce and it is the perfect casts. It includes Beyoncé so how could it not be amazing!

Winter Velvet: So I know it is still pretty early but of all the holiday and winter trends, velvet is probably my favorite. I am psyched to find my perfect holiday dress and I am sure it will be some kind of velvet. The linked Madewell pieces are some fun inspiration to get you excited!

Après-Ski Sweater: This Talbots sweater is number on on my wishlist right now. It would be perfect for this winter’s many ski trips. I seriously think it is amazing and hopefully cozy enough for the snowy slopes.

Texas Mass Shooting: I debating sharing this one, seeing as most people have heard about it in the news but I decided that I needed to since I have spent lots of time thinking about the tragedies that have been brought upon our country this year. It is horrifying and scary. My own thoughts on humanity have become much more depressing. Holding these people in the light is one of the best things we can do, as we have seen we never know what will happen or where it will happen.

The Internet & Social Media: If anything this is just an interesting article to read regarding how internet search has gone from looking for something very specific to finding news. It also inspiring me to pick up a book and get reading!

Thanks so much for reading and have a wonderful week!

Around the Web

I decided to change when I am posting and which posts I am posting when. I am going to try to do an Around the Web post every Monday. I really enjoy writing them and researching for these posts because I feel like I learn so much in the process and it gives me a chance to really catch up with the world on Sunday afternoons. Today New York Fashion Week is definitely at the top of the line when it comes to fashion news. The hurricanes that have been hitting the south coast are also top news and deserve time, attention and care! Enjoy!

Motivation inspiration: This booklist came at a great time for me. I have been in a bit of a funk partially because I have been under the weather and I am in a major transitional period of my life. I have in general really wanted to read more lately and I think reading something that might help me in other parts of life would be really healthy for me right now.

Reviewing NY Fashion Week: Yes one of the greatest times of the year happens to be fashion week and NY Fashion week brought lots of exciting spring styles. I highly enjoyed browsing through Pop Sugar’s pics from fashion week. It is a great summary of trends from the shows. I loved the Rosie Assoulin collection and Man Repeller did a great little post on her spring collection.

Motherhood Around the World: Cup of Jo does this series on motherhood around the world. It definitely gives a new perspective on many aspects of childhood. Motherhood is not something I have thought much about but this series has given me a new perspective on what it is to grow up and learn about the world around you as a child. There are lots of ways to teach and bring up children, no one right way.

Hurricane help: It is very humbling and uplifting to see even those who have been displaced themselves helping hurricane evacuees. With so much hype about the storms and the devastations that followed it is great to see a bit of humanity’s positive side. We never know when we ourselves will be in need of help. I most definitely believe that taking care of each other makes such a better world, although we have such a long way to go as there are many people suffering around the world!

A Beautiful Fall Floral: Blair Eadie wore this gorgeous jacket in an August post and I just couldn’t help but fall in love with it. It is such a beautiful statement piece, I just wish it were more affordable! Although I do love florals I wasn’t so sure about the fall floral trend until I saw this jacket.

Around the Web

Although it was hard to pare it down I rounded up those article/things etc… that have been open on my browser all week. I also signed up for The Skimm which has been an amazing way to get my daily dose of news! Enjoy!

IMG_1174

The Skimm: So I am probably pretty late to the game on this one but I recently discovered The Skimm and it has been such an incredible way for me to always stay updated on current news. I always found it pretty daunting and hard to find the important parts of whats going on in the world. It is definitely subjective but the daily email has really helped me keep up. It just makes the whole news thing super easy!

Lace dress from Nordstrom: I desperately wish I had a fall wedding to go to this year. I fell in love with this dress but just don’t have a good excuse to buy it right now! It is so pretty though and would be perfect for a fall wedding or any event in the coming months.

Bullet Journaling: I always wish I could journal more. It is almost always I time thing, I don’t feel like I have the time during the day to do a full on journal entry for myself. When I do get to it though it helps me sort through things so much. I am hoping that bullet journaling will be an easier way to go about this. I am psyched to try it out! Throughout the day I do the whole jotting down quick notes to myself about a variety of things but I am hoping the intentionality of bullet journaling helps to organize my thoughts a little.

DACA: Yes this is one of those things that is all over the news right now. This article lays out what is currently happening with DACA and gives the lowdown on some DACA replacements that could give those effected by the removal of DACA some protection. For those of you who don’t know DACA is the executive order placed by Obama which allows illegal immigrants brought over as children to work and study in the US and it protects them from deportation.

Guide to September’s Fashion Magazines: This is an article on Man Repeller that lays out all of the September fashion magazine issues. It was super helpful for me because it highlights what that issue covers and makes choosing much easier (I never have time to read everything I want!).

Happy Saturday morning! Here is my round up of interesting articles I have been reading this month. I did include a book that I am reading now as well, Classic Style, which is amazing! Just a warning this Around the Web is definitely mostly fashion.

Rodarte spring 2018 Ready-to-Wear: Rodarte and Proenza Schouler debuted their 2018 ready-to-wear collections at the fall 2018 haute couture week in Paris. This is impressively a whole season ahead of most designers. Although this is so far ahead considering most people are just focusing on the fall season, it is definitely an interesting move on the designer’s parts. There were lots of florals, texture and blush (not going anywhere!), there was also some black in the Rodarte collection.

Lucinda Chambers interview: This fired vogue editor goes at the fashion industry in a way you would not expect. Yes this news is from the beginning of July but it was just such an interesting perspective to me especially because she is really wasn’t afraid to say what she wants about the industry. It is definitely worth the read.

Classic Style by Kate Schelter: This book is definitely changing my perspective on how I create and define my style. I am not finished reading but it has been so great so far, I can’t rave about it enough. She addresses how classic style is not about having tons and tons of clothes but quality pieces that really define who you are what you stand for. Her illustrations are also beautiful!

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale: I am sure everyone has heard that one of the biggest and best sales of the year is underway. This sale is amazing because it is basically a pre-sale with many of their fall items on major sale. Here are a couple of my favorites. My shoe picks: Blush MulesTory Burch boots (on major sale), Vince Camuto over the knee boot. Dresses: pink ruffle mini and this wrap maxi. Outerwear: Patagonia fleece vestquilted Patagonia pullover, Pendleton rain jacket, Barbour navy vest. Accessories: plaid scarf (comes in several color patterns I ordered two), Rebecca Minkoff embroidered crossbody (sold out right now). So some of these items are sold out but they update fairly often with returns and the occasional restock so check back frequently if there is something you really want.

Misty Copeland poses as Edgar Degas paintings: This is such a cool project, putting a twist on classic paintings. I love Misty Copeland and these photographs are incredible and definitely help to redefine a part of our culture.

Walking Dead season 8: Strange as it might be, I am such a huge Walking Dead fan and I am so excited for the next season. I have been waiting for a while and it is set to premiere on October 22nd.

Goop Summer Reading Guide: This has been pulled up on my computer for at least a week because it has given me such great ideas for reading right now and really inspired me to get into a more regular reading routine. I am really excited to read several of their new picks and their classics list definitely gave me some ideas.

Wonder Woman has really hit it big with this movie! I am going to see it this week and I am absolutely ecstatic because all I have heard are good things. This review sums up the impact pretty well, highlighting just how incredible it is to have such a strong female super hero as a role model. Also, Wonder Woman’s theme song is such a powerful song that is sure to amp you up for any game, workout etc…

Jupiter fly by, this footage is beautiful. It is a compiled video of all the shots taken of Jupiter during spacecraft, Juno’s fly by of the planet. The footage is definitely out of this world. Although this is not really related at all this storm footage compilation is stunning and kind of mesmerizing.

The Antarctic Series is an amazing virtual reality created to show people a more personal look at what some of the harshest environments on the planet are like and to raise awareness of climate change. It is amazing! You can see penguins waddling around, what its like at the research station there, underwater ice caves and much more. I was so surprised at how incredible and interactive it is.

TerraCycle is a website/program that allows you to recycle almost anything. It is a great step in personally reducing your carbon footprint especially if your area does not have a recycling system or if you do not know where to take special items. Basically it allows you to recycle almost anything. It can be kind of expensive but the do partner with some brands to make those items free to recycle. I definitely recommend checking out their website.

Alex Honnold making climbing history. This may not sound very important but what he did was an incredible feat. He free soloed El Capitan in Yosemite which is one of the most iconic but difficult climbs in the world. He scaled a 3,000 foot rock wall with no ropes or assistance in under four hours.

Baby hippo taking a shower: This video is so cute! A friend showed it to be the other day and I just can’t get enough. The way she wiggles her ears is just adorable.

The Boring Company: This is basically a video of the owner of Tesla’s vision on how to minimize LA traffic. It is pretty cool and kind of futuristic (who knows though how far in the future!).

The Faces of Paris Fashion Week: Damien Florébert Cuypers’ sketches of Paris Fashion week are an inspiration for me this week!

The Travel Hack: This blog has existed for a long time however I was reading some of their posts this week and it just really inspired me to write more about my own travel adventures. I highly recommend checking them out!

Echo Look: I actually found out about Echo Look on The College Prepster and my mind was blown. It really reminds me of Clueless. Its Amazon’s new styling tool and it is incredible! I am really curious to see how it works in practice.

Here are my favorite finds from around the internet this week. They are pretty random but all of them really made me either smile, think or both. Enjoy!

A Tribute to Carrie Fisher: She seems like such a fun person. This video wonderfully captures her persona, highlighting her humorous side. It brought much joy to my day!

Instagram Dad (FOD): This dad and his kids are so cute! All of Instagram posts are hilarious pictures of him, his wife and four daughters. I really love how his portrayal of life feels so real with lots of joy and lots of struggle.

Edible Water Bottles: This is so cool! Basically it is water encased in a tasteless seaweed extract membrane to reduce plastic waste. I am not sure how I feel about eating one but I would definitely try it out! Also, supposedly they are even cheaper than producing plastic water bottles so it seems like it could be a really awesome way to reduce waste.

Woodpecker Hitches Ride Through Chicago: This is such a cute video of a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker hitching a ride through the city on some guys car. The driver’s commentary just makes it so much greater as well!

Cute Goats: Goats just make my day so much brighter. They are funny and adorable, so I hope this brings you as much joy as it did to me!
