Nordstrom Sale Try On

I know how overwhelming this sale can be so I am just doing this one other post and the only reason I decided to do an actual try is that I ended up really loving some of the things I found in the sale. I original was a little disappointed in the selection but after trying things on I am definitely really excited about some things. I also wanted to especially link options that are still available since public access is starting today!

First I am going to do a little round up of things that are still fully in stock and that are either so worth the money or that I would still consider getting.

Slide1

Zella Pocket Leggings: I have the normal high waisted Live In leggings and absolutely love them. I am about to order these since I am really into the pocket aspect.

Leith Cardigan: I am not really a cardigan person but I ordered this one and am really excited about it. It is a great length and looks so cozy. It has also been recently restocked in all sizes! I also think this cashmere Halogen one is a great option but much pricier.

Spanx leggings: Still fully stocked and 100% worth full price so this is a great time to get them for cheaper.

Nordstrom PJs: Everyone always raves about these and for some reason I only jumped on them this year (see below) and they are the softest and most comfortable pajamas ever. There are still several color options in a few sizes and all sizes in black.

Free People Blouse: This blouse is so pretty! The pink is available in all sizes and the black in a few sizes. The price is great considering it is Free People.

Joggers: I am super into these joggers. The price is great and they are still available in all sizes. Disclaimer though, I have no idea how the quality is in them.

Halogen Trench: So I feel like I might be able to find a better deal on a quality trench coat but I can’t speak to quality here I just really like the look of this and it is still entirely in stock!

And now on to all the pieces I have purchased so far (disclaimer I am definitely not keeping everything).

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Picks

So I told myself I didn’t want to post about this sale however I have spent way too much time thinking and planning for this sale so I decided to channel some of that into a post despite knowing how much other people post about it. It really is a great opportunity to prep for fall if you are in need of any clothing or beauty products. There are also some amazing basics that go on sale for great prices (especially for the quality, e.g. BP. and Caslon). I think the best part of the sale is that there are several great deals on things that don’t usually go on sale (e.g. Barefoot Dreams, Spanx, Barbour, Patagonia). Just in case you are not familiar with this sale I will quickly go over how it works. The sale opens today (July 12th) for cardholders and then it opens to the public on July 19th and runs through August 4th. The second important thing to know about this sale is that it is such a big deal because its the one sale that occurs at the beginning of a season. This means that everything is brand new and has not been sitting on a shelf for months.

First I want to share the products that I have continued to use over and over again, that are included in this year’s sale. These are the products that for me have been most worth the money. This includes mostly things that I have had the most wear out of for the price and several things that are hard to get for lower prices:

Tory Burch Riding Boots: These were one of my first Nordstrom sale purchases and they are such a great closet staple that will last a lifetime. I highly recommend getting these in the sale if you have had the on your wish list. They are such a deal!

Hunter Boots: Although I did not purchase these from the sale, it is a great place to buy them. They are such a great deal and will last forever. If I repurchase ever I will definitely get the packable ones so they are easier to travel with.

BLANKNYC Moto Jacket: I have one in black, I paid full price, and it is totally worth it. They quality and fit are incredible and despite thinking I wasn’t very into leather I wear it all the time.

DSC_0384

Spanx Faux Leather Leggings: I have the cameo ones from last year’s sale but I am considering buying they normal ones since they are a great deal and very versatile. I wear mine fall through spring.

Zella Leggings: If you don’t already own Zella leggings they are a great closet staple for such a great price. I have worn them for workouts, around the house and even to dress up in.

Zella Jogger: I bought these in last year’s sale and they continue to be my absolute favorite pair of sweatpants. They are so comfy and great for hanging around the house. I went up a size because I like my loungewear to be on the looser side.

IMG_5071

Patagonia: I am not including a specific one since I don’t have any of the items included in the sale but I will say that all of their stuff is such great quality and perfect for outdoor adventures. They are also a really great company with an amazing vision and mission.

I have looked through everything that is in the sale and I chose my top three items from the from clothing and shoes/accessories categories. Although I did lump skirts, denim and pants together because in all honesty I was not that impressed with the selection. I organized it kind of how I am shopping and thinking about the sale. I will do a post in a week or so with more specific categories. What I am looking forward to this year:

Favorite Closet Additions of 2018

I am trying to spend money as little as possible right now because I am in graduate school and on a very tight budget, however I have made a few purchases this year that I am very excited about and have been wearing on repeat. Here are my favorite items of clothing that I purchased in 2018. I am not including any accessories but am including one pair of shoes that I absolutely love.

Patagonia hoodie: This is hands down my favorite item from 2018. I wear it everywhere! It is so comfortable and the quality is amazing. I also love supporting Patagonia because they have an amazing mission and story!

Leather hooded jacket: This is probably my second favorite purchase from the whole year. It is so comfortable and easy to pair with just about anything (I wore it in my Living in Utah post for an outfit idea). I have never owned a leather jacket and was not sure how I felt about them but this one is absolutely perfect. The gold hardware and hood really drew me in!

Houndstooth skirt: This has been a very popular item with a lot of bloggers and I could not resist those perfect fall colors. I love how people had been styling it and was so pleasantly surprised by how comfortable and flattering it is!

Leopard booties: This were more of a fall thing since it is pretty snowy in Utah right not so I have been sticking to snow boots. But these from Sezane were they perfect way to bring that leopard trend to a classic I wear all the time (heeled booties).

Wunder leggings: I actually ended up getting two pairs one black and one grey and they are so amazing for everyday wear. My black ones are also great for yoga and lighter work outs.

Zella joggers: I got some grey Zella joggers at the Nordstrom sale this year and they have become my go to for loungewear/sweatpants. I will also go ahead and give a shout out to Zella leggings because they are just as good as some Lululemon pairs and way cheaper.

Cashmere white pearl sweater: White sweaters are great because they can be worn pretty much year round. This one is so soft and was definitely a splurge but worth it. I am also a big fan of this Free People sweater, I wore it basically all August and September!

A Perfect Fall Color

Fall is coming way quicker this year with all this cool weather. As I am starting to pull out all my fall clothing I have been thinking about those perfect fall colors. I will be doing a post on fall trends next week but the colors that come with fall are my favorite! Burnt oranges, browns, olive, mustard yellow and maroon (also blush is still in this year!). This maroon jacket is actually one I got last fall but never really got around to wearing it. I found it again and I am super excited to wear it because it is such a perfect color and it is very comfortable. Also this slip dress from H&M is the most comfortable and soft piece of clothing I have ever put on. I got it for the material and realized after that slip dress have been a big trend this year.

Around the Web

Although it was hard to pare it down I rounded up those article/things etc… that have been open on my browser all week. I also signed up for The Skimm which has been an amazing way to get my daily dose of news! Enjoy!

IMG_1174

The Skimm: So I am probably pretty late to the game on this one but I recently discovered The Skimm and it has been such an incredible way for me to always stay updated on current news. I always found it pretty daunting and hard to find the important parts of whats going on in the world. It is definitely subjective but the daily email has really helped me keep up. It just makes the whole news thing super easy!

Lace dress from Nordstrom: I desperately wish I had a fall wedding to go to this year. I fell in love with this dress but just don’t have a good excuse to buy it right now! It is so pretty though and would be perfect for a fall wedding or any event in the coming months.

Bullet Journaling: I always wish I could journal more. It is almost always I time thing, I don’t feel like I have the time during the day to do a full on journal entry for myself. When I do get to it though it helps me sort through things so much. I am hoping that bullet journaling will be an easier way to go about this. I am psyched to try it out! Throughout the day I do the whole jotting down quick notes to myself about a variety of things but I am hoping the intentionality of bullet journaling helps to organize my thoughts a little.

DACA: Yes this is one of those things that is all over the news right now. This article lays out what is currently happening with DACA and gives the lowdown on some DACA replacements that could give those effected by the removal of DACA some protection. For those of you who don’t know DACA is the executive order placed by Obama which allows illegal immigrants brought over as children to work and study in the US and it protects them from deportation.

Guide to September’s Fashion Magazines: This is an article on Man Repeller that lays out all of the September fashion magazine issues. It was super helpful for me because it highlights what that issue covers and makes choosing much easier (I never have time to read everything I want!).

A Perfect Scarf & Transitioning Into Fall

The weather has been such a fall tease. I love it though because have been able to wear my sweaters and scarves a bunch. I always struggle a little with the transition from summer to fall because temperatures tend to vary a ton during the day. This makes dressing in the morning much more difficult. I started a Pinterest board dedicated to summer to fall style transition and it has really got those creative juices flowing.

I chose this outfit because it was pretty chilly in the morning and in the building I work (hence the scarf). This scarf is so incredibly soft and I have it in two different color patterns, both are perfect for fall. I knew it would be hot later though so I chose a t-shirt. These shoes are great for this transition because they leave some room for air and do not require socks which tends to make me much warmer.

All the Pretty Houses

First of all this has is one of the best finds! Seriously it is so worth checking out those vintage/thrift shops in small towns, there are some real hidden gems. This hat is vintage Nordstrom and I absolutely love it. It will be a perfect derby hat and it is great for just hanging out in the sun. My goal has definitely been to visit all the thrift shops and find those great items.
