Milkshakes in Spring Lake

Last week we drove to the coast for a day to grab our favorite milkshakes at Hoffman’s and walk the boardwalk in Spring Lake for Aiden’s birthday. We got down just in time to enjoy the ocean and eat sandwiches at Tom Bailey’s Market (seriously an amazing deli). The rain started just as a were leaving, making our timing impeccable because it didn’t just rain, it was a torrential downpour. Spring Lake is such a cute little town with some huge beautiful houses. I love just walking the streets and looking at the architecture and gorgeous gardens.

Spring Lake is a great alternative to the popular Ocean City on the New Jersey coast. There are great shops, rental houses and a beautiful beach. I have only ever eaten at Tom Bailey’s but I have heard great things about the pizza place and other restaurants in the town. Hoffman’s milkshakes are amazing but it does get so crowded. Try to go earlier, like take a break from the beach, because it is insane and very difficult to park starting around 3:00pm.

I seem to be drawn to blue and white right now. Almost all of my outfits have been some variant of blue with white. It is definitely a great combination for beach towns though! This dress is pretty old but so comfortable and great for almost any activity.

Adventures in Montclair

We drove to New Jersey on Monday and spent the past several days just ryvuniating and visiting some favorite places. There are some incredible restaurants in New Jersey,  I have had some of the best meal at local New Jersey restaurants. The one thing I really wanted to do this time was go back to Raymond’s in Montclair for some of the best blueberry pie in the world. It is amazing! So much blueberry and they aren’t cooked fully through which I think is so much better.

So the filling in the pie at Raymond’s is hands down the most delicious I have ever had. The crust this time was a little hard but still delicious. I wasn’t super hungry since we ate a later breakfast so I ordered there steel cut oats which were really yummy and the perfect amount of food. Last time we went I ordered a Benedict and it was really good, I haven’t really heard negative things about any of their food. The one thing to be aware of is that service has been super slow when I have gone and I heard this has been a theme lately. It is worth it but not a good place if you do not have the time.

IMG_8787IMG_8791IMG_8805

So this time we did not walk around Montclair for that long but it is a great town to visit with lots of cute little shops. I loved going in Parcel, which is a paper store downtown. I can get so much great inspiration just through their decor and set up. If you like crafting, scrap booking and/or writing letters, this is definitely the place to go. I have been to several other similar stores in Boulder and other cities but this one impressed me in how unique everything was. They used so many random objects, some of which many people might consider trash, and turned them into really beautiful and interesting decor.

IMG_8812IMG_8817IMG_8810IMG_8820

The whole area is very quaint including the residential neighborhoods. There are some really gorgeous houses that are worth driving by if you are in the area. The surrounding New Jersey towns also have some great things to offer, especially restaurants.

Happy August!

I am just wrapping up my time spent in Indiana. It has been a crazy summer and although I have loved my job in Indiana I am very excited to spend some time hanging out with my family in New England. I am going to do a life update post later this week but just in brief I am undergoing some major transitions right now. For many people it is about to be back to school time which is getting me quite nostalgic and emotional. My graduation is really just starting to hit me and there are lots of mixed feelings about it. I will be taking a job in Ohio for the next year so I will be fairly close to school and lots of my friends which I am pretty excited about. I do miss Colorado a ton though and am hoping to have time to visit more often. Anyways I am definitely not sure about my plans in the long term but after this year I will most likely be moving either back to Colorado or to closer to family on the east coast. There are parts of the midwest I really enjoy but I miss the mountains very much and I know I am going to struggle a bit living in a small town with an older population. Anyways that is a brief update of where I am at right now.

These are the last pictures I took on my various trips to Cambridge City which is the antique town on the eastern side of highway 40 in Indiana. I am sure this is one place I will come back to and I definitely recommend stopping by if you are ever driving I-70.

A few quick notes about this outfit: These shoes are the best. I got them during the 4th of July sale but they are still on sale and are the perfect shoe for wearing to the office and out and about. They are very comfortable but took me at least a day to break in. I got them partially because I wanted to add some yellow to my closet, it is just so bright and happy. These shoes are the perfect color in that they don’t over-do it. This slip dress from H&M was one I just couldn’t resist because it is so incredibly comfortable!

Sister Style

This is a shoutout post to my sister. She is definitely one of my best friends and has got an amazing style. We have a real knack for raiding each other’s closets. It’s great (also causes conflict on the occasion) because we use a lot of pieces in each other’s closets but in different ways. There are definitely a lot of similarities between us in how we shop. Mall shopping is overwhelming and we keep it to a time limit. We have had such fun times finding thrift and vintage stores! She is the person whose opinion I totally trust. We don’t wear all the same things but she will definitely say if something looks good or if she doesn’t think I will wear it.

Here are two looks of her’s from when I was visiting earlier in June. The white dress is one I have worn as well. I also was super jealous when she found that black bag at H&M! So cute and goes with everything. On our trip to New Mexico with our cousins we had such a fun time exploring the thrift stores and my sister found these adorable booties. We have has some great and humorous times taking pictures of each other. When we photographed this white skirt we were walking past The Boulderado after a family dinner. We started just making funny faces and taking fun pics, we got the strangest looks!

Summer Floral

Good morning!

I hope everyone had a fun 4th of July. It was definitely a fun one with such amazing food (my friend made strawberry rhubarb pie and it was delicious) and I was very impressed with the small town Indiana fireworks we watched.

Floral dresses are definitely a must during the summer, especially as it starts to really get warm. I was shopping with my mom and sister while I was home and we found this gorgeous Free People dress. It is so lightweight, comfortable and perfect for summer outings. The white and purples look so great and I just love how it falls. Not only that but it is on sale right now!

The flowers again are just so beautiful. I can’t help but take a million pictures every time I go on a walk.

Striped Bow Dress

I found this dress at Target just before leaving for Nebraska and it is amazing! The fit is great and I am really into blue and white right now. I have worn it several times already and it can be dressed up for nicer occasion or just worn to the Saturday farmers market. One of the best parts about it is that is was a great price especially for the quality! These pictures were taken in Nebraska (more to come on this trip!).

Summer Goals

Happy Memorial Day! It is definitely the holiday that marks the beginning of summer. It is a tradition in Boulder to go to the big Creek Festival during memorial day weekend and run the 10k through our city. This year I am not running due to an injury but I definitely will be hanging out with friends at the festival. For some reason this weekend has always marked the beginning of summer, probably because school has just ended and warm weather has finally set in. Barbecue season has begun and the reds, whites and blues are in true high style.

Blouse American Eagle (on sale!), jeans Just Black, shoes Target

Here is my list of things to do this summer:

  1. Hit the beach: Yes I feel like I somewhat already accomplished this in the Bahamas but I do love going to the beach so much and I am hoping to go once more before the summer is over.
  2. Road trip: For some reason this has become a summer staple for me! Last year Aiden and I drove around Colorado, exploring my favorite places and parks and this year we are doing a girls trip to New Mexico to enjoy some pool side sun bathing and gorgeous views. There are an endless number of road trips all over the US and they are so great because you can truly tailor your trip to what you really want to be doing.
  3. See friends and family: Although I will be working for part of the summer, this is the first chunk of time I have had at home for several years and I am super excited to catch up with old friends and see family.
  4. Go sailing: Although Colorado is not the most nautical place I grew up sailing on the east coast and have a love for it even though I am very landlocked. This year the best chance I have will be on the Boulder Reservoir in a sunfish but that will have to suffice. We also have ample opportunity for paddle boarding and swimming.
  5. Hike a mountain: Getting outside always makes me feel better about myself. It is just incredibly freeing, no matter how high the mountain or how low the valley. It is also a great activity to do with friends because it gives so much time to really talk without the distractions of the outside world.

I am sure there are many more but these are my top goals for the summer! I am very excited for all this time in the sunshine after a grey Indiana winter.
